Detailing a Dash-9
Part: 3 - The details continue to come forward.

by Lee Wright

Research showed that the access doors under the cab came in many shapes and sizes.
It’s almost like the builders had no real plans and just put on what ever happen to fit.
I took a drawing and a photo and came up with the doors in auto cad. I printed them out full scale
and taped them to the side of the cab.

Next came cutting out the door parts. Due to the body having to come off for servicing,
part of the door is on the body an part of the door panels extend down onto the frame.
Some parts of the doors had 3 layers of material thus complicating matters.

There is a drip rail that is over the doors. That was a rather difficult part to design and install.
Parts taped in place and clamped in place for a final look over.

The completed conductors side doors.

Removing the glued on doors with a wood chisel. The same process was
repeated and doors were made for the engineers side.

Rear of loco has handles and brackets removed and sports electrical connection and charging port.

Here's an overall view of the mechanical set up.

New exhaust manifold and muffler are now installed along with new gas tank.

Here are a couple of photos of the added air conditioner detail.

It was necessary to replace the existing top of the engine room. Photo shows individual panels ready for installation.
After new panels were welded on, hinges, lifting rings and horns were added for details.

Here's a picture of the completed cab window details.

More pictures to follow soon.
